Copper Canyon Railroad

Opened on November 24, 1961 after 90 years of work, the Copper Canyon Railroad covers 572 miles between Ojinaga, Mexico (across the border from Presidio, Texas) to Topolobampo on the Pacific Ocean.

It features 36 bridges, the longest 1,638 feet and the highest at 335 feet, as well as 87 tunnels including the El Descanso tunnel at 6,035 feet long. The railroad runs through seven canyons along three different rivers, including a lasso track around one mountain as well as two 180-degree turns. The highest elevation of the route is 8,071 feet near Creel.
